William Clifford
Mcwaid
June 6, 1949 – November 20, 2023
McWaid, William "Bill"
William "Bill" McWaid passed away peacefully in his home, on Monday November 20, 2023. Bill was born June 6, 1949 in Woodstock, NB and was the son of the late Howard and Pauline (Hovey) McWaid. He was predeceased by his brothers George, Roy and James (infant).
Bill is survived by his loving wife Linda of 53 years; 2 daughters, Jody Ryan (Thomas) and Jill McWaid Palin (Marc); 3 grandsons, Sebastien Palin, Christian Ryan and Quinn Ryan; 3 sisters, Janet Carter, Sharon McWaid and Elva McWaid, as well as several nieces and nephews.
At an early age of 20, Bill lost the full length of his right leg in an industrial accident. Although he struggled with this life altering adjustment throughout his life, he continued to be employed as a welder and later as a draftsperson, but his passion was wood working. Bill created chairs, benches, turned many beautiful bowls and other items that can be found in many local homes today.
Bill spent most of his life in and around Carleton County. As a young man he loved to fish, hunt, camp, and in younger days, he'd take Linda and his daughters to the local drive-in-movies, where they would eat popcorn wrapped in their blankets enjoying the movie. Bill loved to garden and when his health permitted he would grow a wonderful supply of tomatoes plus other vegetables at their home and at his lot in Williamstown. For all of his life he worked and if there wasn't work, then he would find it. He was never one to give up on any challenge. Recent years he saw his health decline, suffering a heart attack in 2019 which led to dialysis 3 times per week. Despite this, he continued with his life passions of gardening and wood working. Bill wasn't one who needed a wide circle of friends, but his close friends were considered lifelong friends.
As requested by Bill, there will be no visitation. There will be a family graveside service in the spring of 2024.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in his name to the Kidney Foundation or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
Arrangements entrusted to Carleton Funeral Home, 337 Lockhart Mill Road (506) 328-8430
