William Ralph
Gartley
May 23, 1952 – January 15, 2026
William Ralph Gartley, passed peacefully surrounded by love on Thurs Jan 15, 2026.
Born on May 23, 1952, William, known to most as Bill, grew up in Jacksontown, NB. He was a younger brother for Betty an older brother for Herbert. He was the first son for Ralph and Ruth Gartley. Growing up on his family farm with his grandparents next door. Bill learned to work hard and play hard. Family was incredibly important to Bill.
Growing up lots of cousins around, who were also best friends, forged his love of family at an early age.
Bill left the farm for a short while to work in Fredericton fixing office furniture and lived with his aunt. Carleton County beckoned his return, where he married the love of his life Paula (McCormick) and bought his uncles farm across the road from his parents to follow his love for the land and family.
Bill has worn many hats thru the years, from the founding board for NBCC as well as the Woodstock tractor pull to being one of the youngest member of the Odd Fellows Lodge. None of this came close to his favorite rolls of Dad, Uncle and Grandpa. His children, Wanda and Wade were the apples of his eye as were his nieces and nephews. Bill was always available to help, give advice and have fun. By far his favorite roll was that of Grandpa. His Grandchildren: Vanessa, Colby and Chase were his pride and joy. He loved doing things with them and helping when he could, not only his grandchildren but for his great nieces and nephews as well. Everyone was his and he was proud of everyone.
Bill is survived by his wife of 51 years, Paula (McCormick), daughter Wanda Harris (David), son Wade (Krystle). Grandchildren Vanessa & Colby Harris and Chase Gartley. 17 nieces and nephews, 29 Great nieces and nephews and 5 great-great nieces and nephews as well as many cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents Ralph and Ruth (MacDonald) Gartley, Brother Herbert Gartley, Sister Betty Grant, Nephew Andrew Grant, Father-in-law James McCormick as well as brothers in law Roy Grant and John McCormick.
