Wayne Everson McCallum, of Woodstock, New Brunswick, passed away peacefully at the Upper River Valley Hospital, Waterville, N. B. on Friday, December 20, 2024 at the age of 97 years. Born September 21, 1927, he was the son of the late Edwin and Reba (MacFarlane) McCallum.
Wayne was well known in his community as an enthusiastic member of many organizations, including Woodstock Y's Men's Club, Forever Young Club, Royal Canadian Legion, Woodstock Wheelers, and Collector's Club. He was a former editor at the Woodstock Sentinel Press and he served as Woodstock's first Recreation Director. He was a passionate storyteller and a faithful member of St. James United Church.
He is survived by his children, Gary McCallum (Marlene) of Nackawic, NB, Wanda Phillips and Michael McCallum (Margaret) of Woodstock, NB, his grandchildren, Gary Derek McCallum (Melissa), Marla Calder (Ross), Kim Phillips (Adam), Scott Phillips (Chelsey), Janet McCallum, and Gregory McCallum (Laura), along with his ten great-grandchildren. Also survived by his sister-in-law, Carole Dow of Leduc, Alberta, and several nieces and nephews.
Wayne was predeceased by his wife Shirley (Hood) as well as siblings Carl, Eldon (Joe) and Joyce Christie.
Visitation 11:30 am to 1:30 pm Friday, December 27th at St. James United Church, 120 Chapel Street, Woodstock, NB.
Funeral service to follow at 2:00 pm, with Reverend Adekunle Benjamin Adeniyi and Reverend Martin Arputham officiating.
A reception at St. James Church Hall will be provided by United Church Women immediately after the service.
Interment will be in the Spring at the Kirk Cemetery in Northampton, NB.
The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the team at the URVH 2ND Floor North, for the compassionate care they provided to their Dad.
Because he was passionate about and supported so many worthy causes, donations in memory of Wayne can be made to St. James Church, Kirk Cemetery or a charity of the donor's choice.
