Obituary

Viola Idella Brewer (nee McCarthy) “Dolly”, to those that knew and loved her, passed away peacefully on Wednesday May 27, 2026 at the Waterville hospital; sharing her passing with family and friends.

Dolly was born on Valentine's Day, 1938 in Glenburn, Victoria County, New Brunswick.

Predeceased by her parents Wilfred and Pricilla (Everett) McCarthy, Dolly is survived by her husband of 69 years, Garth Brewer; siblings Elva (late Murray Shepherd), Richard (Linda), Wilma (late Wayne Inman), Wilfred “Jack” (Jackie), Lori (Tom Bryant) and her three beloved boys, Peter (Carla Kennedy); Steven (Kim Monteith) and Colin; She was blessed with three grandchildren; Matthew, Samuel, and Thomas, all sons of Steven.

A teacher of 50 years, Dolly left an indelible mark on many students, ranging from kindergarten to adult teachers.

After getting her start by sewing pockets on aprons in Vi Gillett's Victoria county art studio, Dolly knit and sewed every imaginable piece of clothing, from quilts to sweaters, including Christmas socks for family, friends and pretty much everyone she knew.

Please join us for a celebration of life for Dolly at St. John's Anglican Church, 3671 route 540, Richmond Corner; 3:30 -5:30PM, Sunday, May 31, 2026.
