Vida Louise
Smart
February 29, 1940 – April 7, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Vida Louise (Johnson) Smart, known to all who loved her as Louise, on April 7, 2026.
She is survived by her daughter Laurie Smart, daughter-in-law Patricia Sleigh (Dennis), grandchildren Morgan Burns (Nick), Kimberly Smart (Brad), and Nicholas Smart (Meghan), great grandchildren Cadence and Coda Burns, Alex and Taylor Cochrane, Hunter, Gage, Kael, and Brett Smart.
She was predeceased by her husband Arnold Smart, son Wayne Smart, and brother Blair Johnson.
Born on February 29, 1940, in Plaster Rock, New Brunswick, Louise lived a life defined by strength, kindness, and quiet generosity. She dedicated 30 years of her career to the Royal Bank of Canada, where she was known for her dedication and warm presence. Her time there was cut short when she was forced into early retirement due to multiple sclerosis, a challenge she faced with remarkable courage and resilience.
Louise was a proud great-grandmother who cherished her family deeply. She found immense joy in creating with her hands—an incredibly talented knitter since a young age and, later in life, a passionate quilter. Many of her loved ones are fortunate to have at least one of her beautiful quilts, each one stitched with care and love. She also generously donated quilts to various charities over the years, sharing her talent to bring comfort to others.
Louise will be remembered for her warmth, her creativity, and the love she gave so freely. Her legacy lives on not only in her family, but in every stitch of the quilts she leaves behind.
If desired, donations can be made to the Kirk Cemetery or a charity of the donor's choice.
She will be lovingly remembered and never forgotten.
Respecting Louise's wishes, there will no public visitation or funeral service at this time.
A private family graveside service will be held at Kirk Cemetery at a later date.
