Obituary

Sylvia Beryl Wilson Dore Ritchie passed away peacefully Sunday, March 1, 2009 at the Carleton Manor, Woodstock, NB. Sylvia was born in Middle Southampton August 2, 1916, daughter of the late Peter and Carrie (Wilson) Dore. Sylvia was the oldest of four children, so in her early years it was her responsibility to help her father with the farm. Sylvia married her husband Roland E. Ritchie in 1932 and over the years raised five children. During this time Sylvia, along with her husband ran a country store in Ritchie, NB and later she worked at Estabrooks Dry Goods in Woodstock, NB. Sylvia loved to sing, play the piano, guitar and harmonica and was called upon on many occasions to provide the entertainment. Sylvia was a member of St. Luke's Anglican Church, the ladies auxiliary and sang in the choir for many years. She was a member of the Legion #11 and Legion auxiliary #11 and served as President for a term. Sylvia also was a member of Brunswick Rebekah Lodge #44 and a life member of the Southampton Women's Institute. Sylvia is survived by her children; Elbert (Winona), Ellis (Pat) of Ritchie, NB, Roland H. (Eleanor) Woodstock, NB, Joy Ritchie-O'Brien (Donnell) Fredericton NB. : Seventeen grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren, sisters; Marjorie Fox, Alma Deegan and Brother Arnold (Amy) Dore, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Sylvia was predeceased by her husband Roland E. Ritchie (1982) and daughter Janet (2003). Sylvia loved her family and friends and she will be sadly missed by all. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 in the afternoon 2:30 to 4:30 and in the evening 7:00 to 9:00 at The Carleton Funeral Home 337 Lockhart Mill Road, Jacksonville, NB. Funeral service to be held on Thursday, March 5, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at St. Luke's Anglican Church, Main St. Woodstock, NB with the Rev. Douglas Painter officiating. A reception will be held at the church hall following the funeral. Pallbearers are Gary Ritchie, Wilfred Mahoney, Stephen Mahoney, Peter Ritchie, Paul Ritchie and Roland L. Ritchie. Honorary Pallbearer Sarah O'Brien. Interment at the Hillman-Ritchie Cemetery will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations to the Hillman-Ritchie Church or Cemetery Fund would be appreciated, or a charity of the donor's choice. By request of the family no flowers.
