Sherman Blake
Stairs
July 29, 1936 – October 2, 2024
STAIRS, Sherman Blake
Our family is saddened to announce the passing of our father and grandfather, Sherman Blake Stairs, who left us on October 2, 2024, at the Hotel-Dieu of St. Joseph's Hospital, at the age of 88. Born on July 29, 1936, he was the son of the late Tracey and Alma Stairs.
Sherman was a man held in high regard by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. In his youth, he began working in the woods alongside his brother Milton, a passion that he continued throughout his life as a dedicated outdoorsman.
Sherman, a man of many talents, acquired a fiddle in his youth and honed his skills to play it beautifully, bringing delight to many throughout his life. He will be fondly remembered for his role in the 'Stairs Band' where he played at many venues, especially at the Millville Legion on Saturday nights. He will be remembered fondly as a proud, independent individual who loved his family and cherished good company.
Sherman is survived by his devoted children: Connie (Nick) Pozzebon, Kim (Mike) Ottolino, Randy (Lisa) Stairs, and Dana (Angie) Stairs, as well as his siblings Vira, June, and John Stairs, as well as sister in-law Marion. He leaves behind beloved grandchildren: Chelsey (Jonny), Mitchell (Lauren), Colton (Melissa), Caleb (Madison), Justin (Adrienne), Tyler (Sheila), Bryceson, and Weston, as well as great-grandchildren: Madelyn, Brianna, Rowan, Eliza, Abigail, Ava, and Elise.
He was predeceased by his parents and siblings Alton, Ronald, Milton, Iris, and Linda, along with his brothers-in-law Gerald, Dave and Kevin.
Our family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nursing staff at both Upper River Valley Hospital and Hotel-Dieu St. Joseph's for their exceptional care and compassion shown to Sherman in his final months.
Sherman will be resting at Carleton Funeral Home , located at 337 Lockhart Mill Road, Jacksonville, New Brunswick. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, October 9th, starting at 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 PM. The burial will follow at New Lenentine Cemetery in Southampton, New Brunswick.
