Obituary

Ryan Andrew DeLong passed away after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's disease on the evening of August 31, 2019. Ryan was born on December 20 th , 1976 to Harold and Nita DeLong in Woodstock, NB. Ryan was predeceased by his Grandmother, Marilyn Strong and his Father, Harold DeLong. Ryan was survived by his mom, Nita (superwoman), Brothers Wade and Justin (best fishing and travel partner), favorite sister-in-law Heather, and #1 nephew Cale and awesome niece Ryen who proudly carries on the name in his honor! He was also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Ryan is the middle son, of Harold and Nita, known as being the most handsome one and certainly the most adventurous (amongst other things). After completing his first degree, his travels took him to Cowhead, NFLD to begin his career. It was then that he realized his life was more about the adventure and memories; he did what he wanted and had the stories to prove it. He continuously returned to Woodstock to share his adventures and regroup at the DeLong residence, before the 'Rock' called him back again to complete his education degree. This second degree lead to the trip of a lifetime; a 1974 VW van and the 'Summer of No Regrets Tour'; from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean, 40 days and nights across Canada and on to New Zealand. If the VW van could talk, (thank god it can't) the stories it would share. New Zealand hasn't been the same since. He loved to write songs about these adventures and play them for others to enjoy.

Ryan had many friends and earned many nicknames along the way; Rhino, Ryborg, the 'Cute Mute', the hottest DeLong and many more. Ryan's friends were his most important treasures, the boys he grew up with supported him all the way to the end and were like family to him. He was happiest when he was playing his guitar, doing woodworking projects, taking pictures , and when he was on the water somewhereeither fishing or boating. Although Parkinson's restricted his ability to safely build things, and many of us watched in horror as he ran the table saw, his determination allowed him to finish things that most wouldn't even start.

While we couldn't always understand what Ryan was saying, his eyes and body language never failed to tell us what was on his mind.  While in hospital he was known to request "hot nurses only!". He was always happy and quick to make a sly joke, especially when he thought it might impress a lady in the crowd. Ryan will be remembered as a caring, humble and strong individual for the many accomplishments and battles he faced.

Ryan is resting at the Carleton Funeral home in Jacksonville, NB; visitation will be on Wednesday September 4 th from 6pm-8pm with a short service to follow immediately after.

Ryan would rather people remember his passion for music. If you feel the need to support something, please make donations in his memory to the Canterbury High school to kick start their music program.
