Mary June
Power
June 16, 1940 – December 4, 2025
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Mary June Power on Thursday December 4, 2025, at Carleton Manor in Woodstock at the age of 85.
Mary was born on June 16, 1940, to Mona (Bragdon) and Victor Moorcroft. She grew up in Elmwood and after graduating Debec High School she left Elmwood to go to Fredericton to attend Teachers College.
After graduation from Teachers College her first teaching experience was a one-room schoolhouse in Turtle Creek (outside of Moncton). As was the norm at the time the school board paid her room and board at a nearby home as part of her teaching assignment. Luckily for us, that home belonged to the sister of Mom's future husband, Gordon.
Mary and Gordon began their life just down the road from that one-room schoolhouse. However as Carleton County often does, it called to them and they moved to Woodstock where Mary began teaching at Fisher Memorial School until the day it burned and she helped escort all of the children to safety. She taught Grade 2 for several years.
She and Gordon took a leap of faith and opened G & M Grocery on Main Street and ran that successfully. When it was decided to move on, Mary went back to teaching, but this time adults were her focus, first at Carleton County Vocational School then on to NBCC. She helped hundreds of young (and maybe not-so-young) people get their GED. That was her true passion as she watched many of them continue their education and become successful. There were many times that she would be out and about and someone would stop her and let her know what a difference she had made in their lives. She would always beam when she heard these words.
Mary's door was always open. There was always a cup of tea and a listening ear ready for anyone at anytime. And often the house was filled with the smell of home baked bread and doughnuts.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Carolanne Power and Cindy Robidoux, her son-in-law, Scott Robidoux, her two grandsons, Robert (Terry Lynn) and Ethan Robidoux and great grandson, Bobby Robidoux. She is also survived by her brother, Alton (Liz) Moorcroft and sister-in-law, Muriel Moorcroft as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, her husband Gordon, as well as her sister Myrna (Donald) Cox, Hazel Farrell, Lula (Laurel) Atkinson, Irene Beers, Linda Smith and Eldon Moorcroft.
The saying it takes a village to raise a child can also be applied to the last few years of Mom's life. From the countless times that the tireless EMTs rushed her to the ER, to the extraordinary care she received each and every time she was a patient at URVH; to the care and devotion she received from her PSWs, especially Cora, Jane and Mariah, and lastly to the wonderful staff of Carleton Manor. Because of each and every one of you she knew that she was loved and respected and for that we will always be grateful.
Keeping with Mary's wishes, there will not be a public visitation or funeral service, A private interment will take place at McKenzie Corner Cemetery.
If so desired, a donation to a charity of the donors choice would be appreciated by the family.
