Mary May Calhoun (Craddock) was born November 10th, 1920 in Langley, England to Frank and Alice.  She had one brother, Ted, who still lives in England at the age of 94.  She met the love of her life, Caldwell, while serving in the Second World War and married him on June 6th, 1944.  Soon after, Mary decided to bring her infant daughter, Ann to the safety of Canada leaving behind her new husband while he continued to serve in the war.  Upon reuniting with her young husband about a year later, Mary moved out of her in-laws house and into their own home.  Eventually they settled in their family home in Jacksonville where they raised their 8 children.  This is where they taught their children the value of family; going fishing, having family picnics and spending quality time with aunts, uncles and many cousins.  They modelled that family life was about more than the material things of this world but instead it was about the time you invest in one another.

Once the children moved on, it was time for a new chapter of their life; travel.  Mary and Caldwell travelled all across Canada and to all but 2 states in the U.S making new friends and memories along the way that they cherished for their remaining years.  Eventually the years of travel came to a stop, and they decided to build on a granny suite to Don and Elaine's home in Wakefield.  They lived there until Caldwell's death in March of 2008.  After Caldwell's death, Mary resumed travelling but this time with her dear daughters.  They each got a first-hand tour of Mary's homeland of England meeting their relatives and developing close bonds with several of them.  Her niece, Mary, became a dear friend to many here in Canada and made the trip this side of the pond many times.  Armed with a true sense of adventure, she and her daughters went on many road trips to such places as Alabama and Florida.  She loved these road trips and would go any chance she could get.

In the last two years, Mary called the manor her home however, most weekends you would find her with family at the lake, going to church, at the farm or going for drive in the car or even on occasion, on an ATV outing.  Mary was a woman of grace, integrity, courage, determination who fiercely loved her family.  She has left a legacy of love for those of us that remain and we will miss her dearly.

Visitation will be held at The Carleton Funeral Home & Crematorium 337 Lockhart Mill Road Jacksonville on Saturday, December 3, 2016 from 5 PM to 8 PM. Funeral service for Mary will be held on Sunday, December 4, 2016 at 1PM from The Carleton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Greg Williams officiating. Interment will be held in the Woodstock Rural Cemetery at a later date.
