Marie Lillian Griffiths

Marie was born on February 19, 1930, in Dock Settlement, New Brunswick to Truman and Evellien Parsons the 7th child of 9 children and was the last child surviving her family. She grew up on the farm in Doak and after finishing grade 8, she went to work at the Hart shoe

factory in Fredericton. She met Burpee Griffiths on January 1, 1949, and they were married on May 16, 1949, and the next day moved to their farm on the Hogden Road just outside of Woodstock, New Brunswick. They had their only child Ronald in 1951. Marie was a very hard worker on the farm and out worked most. Anyone that knew her commented on her work ethic and of course her famous homemade bread. When Burpee passed away in 1978, she went back to school to get her nursing certificate. This was something she always

wanted to do. In the early 80s, she moved to Olds to help Ron with his children. Marie helped Ron raise his children, her great-grandchildren and was fortunate enough to have three great-great-grandsons. She worked at the Mount View Lodge for 15 years and ended up residing there for ten years after she retired. Marie did a lot of volunteer work

at the Olds Hospital where it seemed that everybody knew her when she spent time there this spring. Marie passed away on September 21 at Taylor View Towers in Red Deer at the age of 96 years. As a friend of ours would say “she had a good run”. Marie is survived by her son, Ronald (Ervanna) Griffiths; grandchildren Angela Griffiths; Bradley (Jennifer) Griffiths; great-grandchildren, Adrienne Hamann, Tegwyn (Makayla) Griffiths; Brynn Griffiths; 3 great-great-grandsons Dominic, Isaac and Silas Hamann; special nephew Angus Johnson;

special nieces Ann Quartermain and Shirley Scott whom all kept in regular contact with her along with numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. She was predeceased by her husband Burpee; three brothers, Louie, Melvin, and Charles; sisters Isabel, Mildred, Joyce,

Laura and Esther. A Celebration of Life was held on Friday September 25, 2026, at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #105, Olds. Memorial tributes may be made directly to the Olds & District Hospice Society. West View Funeral Service, Olds entrusted with arrangements. 403-556-6576

A graveside service will be held at McKenzie Corner United Cemetery in the spring of 2027
