Obituary

Lewis Irvine Monteith passed away May 27, 2021, at the Upper River Valley Hospital. He was born January 17, 1931 in Pembroke, N.B. to Robert and Elva (Parker) Monteith.

He is survived by his son Joel (Sabrina) Monteith, his daughter Irene (Leigh) Williams, grandsons Brian (Tina) Williams and Gregory (Jamie) Williams and great grand-children Annalise, Carter, Julia and Danielle, his sister Elaine Murray and his brother-in-law Raymond Smart, as well as his very close family friend Elaine McCormack. He has several nieces and nephews.

Lewis was predeceased by his parents, his wife Joyce (Bull), his sister Betty Smart and sister and brother in law Muriel and Cecil Delong, his brother and sister in law Earl and Margaret Monteith, as well as brother in law Martin Murray.

Lewis started working as a woods worker in the late `1940's and soon after started his true career as an auto mechanic. Over the years he worked at several garages in Woodstock and then worked as a school bus mechanic. He took great pride in keeping the buses safe and on the road.

Lewis had many interests. He built many contraptions from old vehicles, like his beloved Mud Wagon. He built and operated a saw mill and kept many early model snowmobiles running into his 80's. He enjoyed boating and fishing trips, normally with "adopted" grand-children, nieces and nephews "helping", which usually involved him cooking burgers hot dogs or pancakes on the trail.  He spent many hours over the grill cooking pancakes at breakfast benefits in Northampton and Richmond Corner. He was most happy making many "dollar" sized pancakes for the little children.  In recent years, he enjoyed trips with his friend Elaine as they toured as many back roads as they could find.

Lewis will be sadly and fondly missed by family, friends and all who knew him.
