Lawrence Eugene Sewell

We are saddened to announce the sudden passing of Lawrence Eugene Sewell of Northampton on September 23, 2026.

He was born on October 18, 1939 in Rosedale New Brunswick to Walter & Elizabeth (Johnston) Sewell. He was predeceased by his parents and brother Harold.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Delana (Dyer) Sewell, his sons, David (Jacqueline) and Jonathan (Katrina), his sister Marjorie and his nephew Grover (Gail) who was like a brother to him.

Lawrence was a potato farmer for many years. He then began his second career working for the Provincial Department of Transportation, at first with the highways, then latterly as a bridge supervisor where he enjoyed working with his crew repairing and building bridges.

He was also an accomplished amateur carpenter, having built a large part of his log home, as well as many beautiful pieces of furniture.

Lawrence enjoyed golfing very much, achieving his first and only ‘hole in one’ last year.

Problem solving was one of Lawrence’s natural talents. In fact, when he wasn’t able to sleep he would play Samurai Sudoku at the ‘fiery’ level as a form of ‘relaxation’. He also loved doing a good puzzle but decided that his limit was 3000 pieces. He enjoyed playing dominoes with family and friends and would ‘light up’ when he had strung together the perfect combination of bones before saying ‘I’m out’. His smile was infectious.

At the age of 9, Lawrence accepted Christ as his Saviour at Sandy Cove Bible Camp. He was devoted to his faith and served as a deacon for many years.

Matthew 25:21 …Well done, thou good and faithful servant …enter thou into the joy of the lord.

The visitation (12pm-2pm) and funeral (2pm) will be held on Wednesday September 30 at Grafton Baptist Church. The service will also be live streamed and can be accessed with this link:
