Murphy
February 27, 1931 – April 6, 2025
It is with broken hearts that we announce the death of Joseph (Joe) Angus Murphy of Woodstock, on Sunday April 6, 2025, at the Upper River Valley Hospital at the age of 94.
Joe was born in Halifax NS on February 27, 1931, to the late Joseph and Louise (Zwicker) Murphy.
Joe is survived by his wife Madeline (Wright), Daughters, Kelly (Stuart) Phillips, Kathy (Brad) Ireland, Sons Michael Murphy, Patrick (Lynn) Murphy, grandchildren, Kayla (Lockhart (Travis), Amanda Phillips (Andre Desjardins), Sydney Ireland (Alex Unkerskov), Erick Murphy (Megan McGuire), Sean Murphy (Noe'mie Malenfant), sister Theresa Murphy.
Besides his parents, Joe was predeceased by his brother Lawrence John Murphy.
Joe started his career with the RCMP in 1951, he was posted to several detachments around New Brunswick, his last post was in Woodstock where he retired as Sergeant in 1978. Joe then went on to become Chief of Police for the Town of Woodstock until 1992. Joe was well respected by his peers, staff, colleges and citizens of Woodstock. He served on the board of directors for Carleton Memorial Hospital, he was instrumental in starting the Crime Stoppers program in the local area. Joe was married to the love of his life in September 1956, and they celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary last September. He was an avid hunter and loved to get out in the woods in the fall. Joe was faithful Blue jays fan and a Winnipeg Jets Fan.
Keeping with Joes' request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
If so desired, donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
The family would like to thank the staff at Carleton Manor and the nurses at Upper River Valley for their compassionate care while Joe was a patient.
