Obituary

It is with broken hearts and much sadness that we announce the death of John Gerard Hallihan of Woodstock, NB on September 16, 2022, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, Fredericton, NB at the age of 69.

John was born in Newcastle, NB on July 14, 1953, to the late James and Lois (Donovan) Hallihan.

John is survived by his wife Catherine (Tucker) Hallihan, his daughter, Joline (Christopher) Green and his sons, Adam (Lindsay) Hallihan and Peter (Samantha) Hallihan. John was so proud of his grandchildren Daniel and Laura Green, and excited about Peter and Sam's precious baby girl due in February. He will be sadly missed by siblings, Heather Hogan, Faye Jardine, Tracy (Danny) McEvoy, Melvin (Kaye) Hallihan, Jason (Heidi) Hallihan, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

John was predeceased by his parents and his mother and father-in-law, Genevieve and Murdoch Tucker.

John spent most of his work life as a woodsman, operating heavy equipment and later became a scaffolder, working out west and in Saint John at the Refinery. He was a dedicated and proud member of the Knights of Columbus 2234, never missing a meeting or weekly Bingo nights. He was an active member of St. Gertrude's Church, serving as an usher and sharing his deep faith and love for the church and God.

John's greatest accomplishment was his family. He loved his family deeply and always showed up to all hockey games, ball games, basketball games, lawnmower races, and any other event someone might be taking on. He was a great neighbour and always ready to lend a helping hand. He will be deeply missed but we know his suffering has ended and he is in heaven, having a cup of tea with his family members he has missed so much.

The family would like to thank the ICU nurses and doctors at the Dr Everett Chalmers Hospital as well as the dialysis nurses and home care nurses in Woodstock that he came to adore.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday September 20, 2022, at the Carleton Funeral Home, 337 Lockhart Mill Road, Jacksonville NB from 7 to 9 PM.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at 1PM from St. Gertrude's Church in Woodstock. Father Martin Arputham officiating.

A private family interment will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations would be welcomed by John's family.
