John Edward
Depow
March 6, 1949 – July 30, 2018
John Edward Depow age 69, son of Ned and Marie Depow (both deceased), was born on March 6, 1949 in Woodstock, N.B. where he remained a resident throughout his life. John died at home surrounded by his loving family on July 30, 2018. He is a graduate of Woodstock High School where he excelled in sports such as basketball and soccer as well as track and field. Later, he was inducted into the Woodstock Wall of Fame as a member the Woodstock Bottlers basketball team that won the Maritime Intermediate 'A' Basketball Championship in 1970. John had a long career as a Correctional Officer and was well respected by his colleagues as well as many of those who were incarcerated. Prior to retiring, John worked at the Community College in Woodstock. Well known for his dry sense of humor, it was not uncommon for all conversation to stop when John entered a room as those present waited for the latest humorous comments. John had a special way with dogs, often carrying treats for his many 'canine friends'. In his teen and young adult years he often expressed his thoughts in poems and other writings in a manner that impacted those who had the opportunity to read them.
John is described by his children as a 'wonderful father'. He is survived by his wife Catherine, son John Simon and his wife Karen, daughter Amanda, son Jason and his wife Natasha, and grandchildren Cody Doucette, Jorge Depow and Noah Depow. He is also survived by his sister Jane Boyd and husband Brian as well as brother Larry Depow and wife Lorraine. John will also be greatly missed by his many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. McLaughlin, Dr. Alborg, Upper River Valley Hospital and Extra-Mural for their excellent and dedicated care.
John requested that no funeral be held. A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the River Valley Cancer Support Group or to the Carleton County Animal Shelter.
