February 8, 1947 – December 24, 2023
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of John Henry Connell, loving husband, dad, grampy, and brother on Sunday, December 24th, 2023, at the Upper River Valley Hospital in Waterville at the age of 76.
John was the youngest of five children, born on February 8th,1947 in Woodstock, NB, to parents Marguerite (Gibson) and Henry Connell. John grew up on the family homestead in Northampton and graduated from Woodstock High School in 1965. He then went on to study at the University of New Brunswick and graduated in 1970 with a degree in civil engineering.
Following graduation, John moved to Schefferville, Quebec and worked as a foreman for an iron ore mining company. After three years, John returned home to live in Northampton with his mother and uncle, Donald Gibson, where he helped look after the family farm and formed strong bonds with his many nieces and nephews. In 1974, John started working for his brother, Bert at Connell's Plumbing and Heating where he remained employed as a licensed plumber for 33 years.
John had a passion for farming and an appreciation for nature. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, fishing, walking, snowmobiling, and spending time at his camp. John was an active member in the Northampton community and proud to be a caretaker of the cemetery at the Kirk Church. John also enjoyed reading and exploring the outdoors with his grandchildren.
Besides his parents, John was predeceased by his sisters Arline Davis and Norma Dore and his sister-in-law, Dorothy Connell.
John is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Rosalie (Smart), son Bill (Kendra), daughter Joanna (Lawrence MacKenzie) and two special grandchildren, Wynn & Sam Connell.
He is also survived by his big brothers and best friends, Bert Connell & Charles (Phyllis) Connell, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
There will be a visitation on Thursday, December 28th, 2023, from 6-8pm at the Carleton Funeral Home, 337 Lockhart Mill Road, Jacksonville, NB.
Funeral service will occur on Friday, December 29th, 2023 at 12pm at the Carleton Funeral Home with a reception to follow at the Northampton Recreation Centre, 3781 Route 105, Northampton, NB.
If desired, memorial donations towards the Kirk Cemetery in Northampton, NB would be greatly appreciated.
