James
Chandra
December 22, 2021
James Jagdesh Chandra died on Wednesday, 22nd of December at Carleton Manor, Woodstock, New Brunswick, where he lived as a resident since June, 2021. James was born in a small village of Port Mourant in Guyana to Jagdeo and Indrani (nee Ramcharan) Parmoo, the third child in a family of 8. In 1967, he immigrated to Canada to study at the University of New Brunswick where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Geology, and a Master of Science in Geophysics. Along with his wife, Una (nee Yhip) Chandra, James eventually made Fredericton, New Brunswick his home, obtaining his Canadian citizenship in 1973. Over the years, he served in two Provincial Government Departments: The Department of Natural Resources and the Department of Economic Development and Tourism. He also lectured as an Adjunct Professor at the University of New Brunswick.
James had a deep love for the community that first welcomed him as a newcomer to Canada. From this spirit of love, James did his best to bless and enrich the lives of his neighbours. Among his greatest joys was his involvement with Saint Margaret's Anglican Church— a Christian community where he served in leadership for many years.
James is survived by his wife, Una and his three sons, Michael (Allison), Mark (Jyoti) and Terence (Jasmine). Although he found his service to the community very rewarding, James, in his later years, took the most pride and delight in fulfilling his role as a loving and affectionate grandfather to eight grandkids: Daniel, Elizabeth, Anna, Asha, Isaac, James, Samuel and Naomi.
