Harry Murray
Hunter
Sep 5, 1931 — Jun 22, 2026
It is with appreciation of a life well lived and gratitude for many years of memories that the family of Harry Murray Hunter announce his death which occurred June 22, 2026, at Upper River Valley Hospital.
Harry was born September 5, 1931, in Stickney, Carleton County NB. He was the third child of George and Lottie Hunter.
Harry met the love of his life Betty Jean in 1949, and they were married March 3, 1950, and celebrated 72 years of marriage in 2022. They had 4 boys, Murray, Douglas, Ernest, and Hazen all within 4 years. They were a busy family, and Harry was on the road trucking, so family time was important to him.
During his life he worked at many jobs and could be found under a truck doing repairs, welding into the wee hours of the night, behind the wheel of an 18-wheeler and on the farm working in the barn or fields to do whatever was necessary. He also drove the school bus in his later years and always had stories to tell about the kids on the bus.
There are many stories of Harry and his love of horse trading. One time he and Uncle Eddie started out the day and saw 2 small raccoons along the road, they stopped and got them and after many trades, came home with a horse. They spent many days together doing that and they both loved it. Harry also shared his love of horse trading with his grandson Steven, and his great grandsons Wesley, Josh and Cole.
As kids we spent many hours in the kitchen enthralled by the stories that he loved to tell, whether they were stories of trading or trucking. Harry often came across as being abrupt, but he had a heart of gold. He would give you the shirt off his back and was generous even though times were hard.
He is survived by his sons Murray (Georgie) of Maui, Daughter in law Marilyn late Douglas (Maui), Ernest (Nancy) of Simonds and Hazen (Bonnie) of Florenceville. He is survived by his brother Averil (Elaine) of Simonds. He is survived by his grandchildren, Steven (Theresa), Kathy (Terry), Bobby, Christie (Carlos), Lisa (Juan), Jason (Susan), Sara (Matthew) and Andrew (Rene).
He is survived by 17 great grandchildren, and 2 great- great grandchildren.
He is survived by 3 sisters in law and 3 brothers in law.
He is survived by many nieces and nephews, friends and extended family.
He was predeceased by his wife Betty Jean, son Douglas and great grandson Cole, parents George and Lottie Hunter, his brothers Willie (Vella), Gerald (Muriel), Norma (George).
Celebration of Life to be held at a later date. At this time the family would like to thank Kindred Home Care and especially Carol Crandlemire for the wonderful care she provided.
