Grace Robertine
Shaw
June 4, 1933 – January 11, 2026
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Grace Robertine (Vautour) Shaw of Woodstock on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at the Upper River Valley Hospital in Waterville at the age of 92.
Grace was born in Campbelltown, New Brunswick, on June 4, 1933, to the late Robert and Jean (Adams) Vautour.
Grace devoted her life to education and service. She had a long and distinguished teaching career in the New Brunswick K–12 public school system, where she taught French in Bristol, Hillsborough, Moncton, Woodstock, and Hartland—where she met her future husband, Earl Shaw. After retiring from the K–12 system, she continued her work in education with the New Brunswick Community College (NBCC) and the Collège communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick (CCNB).
Following her retirement from NBCC/CCNB, Grace went on to serve with the University of Maine at Presque Isle (UMPI), where she provided guidance and support to the next generation of educators across the Atlantic provinces. Even after formally retiring, Grace remained committed to helping others, volunteering her time and expertise to teach English as a Second Language to newcomers to Canada, assisting them as they worked toward Canadian citizenship.
Grace was highly educated and deeply valued lifelong learning. She earned her Teaching Diploma from the New Brunswick Teachers' College, a Bachelor of Arts (BA), a Bachelor of Education (BEd) from St. Thomas University, and a Master of Education (MEd) from the University of New Brunswick.
Grace was strong in her faith and was an active and devoted member of the Meductic Baptist Church for many years.
She is survived by her sons: Robert (Carla) Shaw of Moncton, Stuart Shaw of Wakefield, Kent (Charlotte) Shaw of Quispamsis, and Grant (Leah) Shaw of Woodstock; her grandchildren Shannon, Tarah, Kendra, Zane, Colby, Levi, and Isaac; and her great-grandchildren Amelia and Kaiah. She is also survived by her siblings Terry (Natalie) Vautour, Barry (Vicky) Vautour, Brian (Janet) Vautour, and Elaine Mann; her sisters-in-law Dawn Vautour; her brother-in-law Alton (Jean) Shaw; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Besides her parents, Grace was predeceased by her husband Earl Shaw in 2005; her brothers Wallace, Denis and Sonny Vautour; her daughter-in-law Denyse Seca; and her brother-in-law Gary Mann.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Carleton Funeral Home, 337 Lockhart Mill Road, Jacksonville, NB, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. from the Carleton Funeral Home Chapel, with interment in the spring at Upper Meductic Cemetery.
If so desired, donations in Grace's memory may be made to the Meductic Baptist Church Fund.
