It is with deepest sympathy that the family of George (Sonny) Sharkey announces his passing at the Upper River Valley Hospital following a brief illness. Sonny was surrounded by his loving wife of 65 years and his sons, Harold and Michael, and daughter, Tiffany, at the time of his passing.
Sonny is survived by his wife, Gaynelle (Daye), Sons, Harold (Robina), Michael (Linda) and daughter, Tiffany (Darren) Johnson as well as grandchildren Kayla Davidson (Alex), Nicholas (Amy Tomah), Andrew (Emily), Victoria, SueEllen (Dennis Cullins), Jenna Sharpe (Jon) and Kristen Johnson as well as 9 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Sonny was a master carpenter and built many homes and other buildings throughout Carleton, Victoria and York Counties. His attention to detail and sharp mind made him very skilled at his trade. Sonny was a hard worker and appreciated that in others, even while he was sick often telling his children, "Good" when they said they had to work the next day.
Sonny loved fishing and hunting taking numerous trips to the Odell with his family and close friends. Sonny's love of fishing and hunting led him to purchasing a camp in Juniper with Gaynelle and best friends, Bill and Joan Prosser.
Sonny and Gaynelle also had a camp at North Lake where they built room for their children and grandchildren to visit. Many weekends were spent at the beach or boating to the sand bar with their grandchildren. Sonny also loved to play games like Skipbo with his grandchildren. Memories that will never be forgotten.
Sonny will be deeply missed by his friends and family who enjoyed his sense of humor and love of family and neighborhood get togethers.
The family would like to thank the staff and doctors of 2East at the Upper River Valley Hospital for their care of Sonny and kindness during his illness.
