The family of Eugene Clarence McConnell. announce his death on Saturday, October 2, 2021, at the Upper River Valley Hospital, Waterville, New Brunswick. Eugene was born in 1932 at Doak, New Brunswick, the youngest child of the late Clarence and Elizabeth (Lord) McConnell.
Eugene grew up at Doak and attended schools in Fredericton by travelling on the city bus and train, depending on the season. Eugene's mother taught Sunday School to her children and the neighbourhood children in Doak. These teachings have remained with him as a life-long member of the Jacksonville United Baptist church.
With the older children in their own homes; Clarence and Lizzie moved with the thirteen-year-old Eugene to Jacksonville where Eugene lived and farmed for sixty seasons. The farm started as mixed with beef and milking cows, potatoes, and grains, then as a seed and table potato producer, shipping to chip producers in Nova Scotia. After retiring from full-time farming, he continued to take a great interest, and assist where able, in the farm operation then run by his son, Larry.
He is survived by daughters Beverley Ketch (Harold), Marilyn Wilson and Elizabeth Tibbits; son Larry McConnell and grandchildren Marty (Jocelyn), Rebecca (Wesley), McKenzie (Brook), Robert, William (Nichole), Virginia (Michael), Ross (Jennifer), HelenMarie, Joseph, Gerald (Katelyn); thirteen great grandchildren; nine nieces and nephews; as well as many friends. In addition to his parents, Eugene was predeceased by his daughter Jane Olmstead; son-in-law Charles; sisters Leona Harvie, Merle Smith, and Donna Wallace; brother Alvah McConnell; niece Wanda Cummings; great nephew Mark Prosser.
With Covid regulations in place, there will a public visitation at the Carleton Funeral Home, Jacksonville, NB on Tuesday, October 5, 2021, from 4pm until 7pm. There will be a private funeral service. For those who wish, memorial tributes may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Please note that proof of both vaccines must be shown and masks are mandatory for visitation .
