Obituary

Douglas Ernest Derrick passed away peacefully at his home in Woodstock NB where he received excellent care from the Extra Mural Program, Canadian Red Cross, Dr. William Mutrie, Brenda Shannon and his beloved wife, Gina. Doug grew up in a farmhouse in Dead Creek NB where he helped with the family farm. He graduated from Canterbury Regional High School where he was avid basketball player. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force after high school and was stationed in Ottawa to look after dignitaries. After his service, he moved to Toronto where he worked and first played golf, a passion he carried on until he could play no more. He married Betty Jean Derrick (Nee Dickinson) and had two children before moving back to Woodstock NB to raise the family. He worked at St. Anne Pulp and Paper Mill until his retirement, at which time he enjoyed travelling to New Zealand on multiple occasions to visit his family.

Douglas married Gina (Nee Cheney) on January 2, 1998 in Woodstock NB and he was a loving and caring husband for over 21 years.

Douglas will most endearingly be remember for lovingly raising two children, two step children, 10 grandchildren and helping raise many other children who treated as his own.

Douglas is survived by his wife, Gina Derrick, his daughter, Tammy Hebditch (Peter), Hamilton, New Zealand, his son, Dale Derrick (Anna), Tel Aviv, Israel, five grandchildren, Matthew Hebditch, Alexandria Hebditch, Ben Derrick, Mason Derrick and Jordan Seltser, two step daughters, Rachel Faulkner, Fort McMurray, AB, and Heather Lewis (Troy), Woodstock NB, five step grandchildren, Lincoln Faulkner, Kalee Ingraham, Landon Ingraham, Jayden Ingraham, and Leland Ingraham, sisters, Laura Roussell (Bill), Canterbury NB and Carolyn Derrick (Derek Davidson), Fredericton NB, brothers, Ray Derrick (Arlene), Woodstock NB, Donald Derrick (Dorrine), Woodstock NB, Lawrence Derrick (Terriann), Nackawic NB, as well several nieces, and  nephews.

Douglas was predeceased by his parents, Ernest T. Derrick and Ruby F. Derrick and nephew, Michael Derrick.

The family will be holding private burial. A public reception will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at the Saint Mark's United Church Hall Canterbury at 2 PM.

As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Extra Mural Program or to the Canadian Red Cross.
