Donald Earl
Lockard
July 12, 2019
Donald 'Don' Lockard left this mortal realm on July 12, 2019 at the ripe old age of 92. We think he did it on purpose to avoid more terrible hospital food.
The world was blessed with his presence on December 16, 1926, born to Ella and Lloyd. As a boy he helped tend to the family farm with his brothers, John and Robin. Growing up, he did his fare share of mischief and had the most colourful stories, and (recently found) jail records to show for it. Although he tried his hand at many jobs (and good at all), Don was a lumberjack at heart, working long days in the woods for himself and in various camps.
Don married the love of his life, Rose Sewell, on April 17, 1957. Married for (one month shy of) 54 years, Rose put up with his cheeky wit until her passing on March 25, 2011. They had three good looking children together, Stephen (who inherited his wit + great story telling), Lewis (who inherited his work ethic and dry sense of humour), and Wendy (who inherited his work ethic + particularism). Don had an equally good looking stepson, Daniel, who enjoyed all of Don's qualities that annoyed his mother. These four went on to have even more incredibly good looking children and great grandchildren.
Survived by:
Son Stephen (Cindy), granddaughter Stephanie (Brian) and great grandchildren: Maddison, Malcolm and Marrisa. Grandsons Stephen (Brittany) and Shaun (Mallorie).
Son Lewis (Rhonda), granddaughter Rachel (Seth), great grandchildren Landon, Logan and Allissa. Granddaughter Denise (Roy) and Great Grandchildren Patric, Taylor, Brock, Kadence, Marshal.
Daughter Wendy (Ricky), granddaughter Ashley, grandson Adam (Jan) and great granddaughter Layla.
Stepson Daniel (Joy), and granddaughter Sarah (Shayne) and great grandchildren Brayden and Ryland. Granddaughter Melissa (Duy).
His favourite meal of Cheesies, cheese, tea and the occasional slice of pie from Murray's may just be the secret to a long life.
He liked to balance out tv time with comedies and educational programs like the Simpsons, Family Feud, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.
Don was particular with how he did and where he kept things. He kept record of every event and temperature of every day on a calendar, he would eat one item of food on his plate at a time and had every tool in his shed outlined so everything went back in its exact place. Although he was put on oxygen, nothing could scare Don away from his chewing tobacco or saying exactly what was on his mind. Talented at whatever he tried his hand at, including humorously tormenting his grandchildren, Don also enjoyed teaching them about cars, feeding those he watched after school: french fries, bacon and microwaved corn, making them laugh and giving his 'wisdom and advice' on anything and everything - asked or not.
In his later years, Don lived at Swims Special Care Home where he kept the owners, Emily and Greg, the staff and other residents, in stitches. The idea of moving from his home into a Special Care home wasn't easy at first, but, as he'd tell you, the people of Swims are, 'Pretty good sh*t!' They spoiled him and he loved the attention.
The mix of love, torment, wit and cheeky humour made Don completely irresistible to those he encountered. He will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held at The Carleton Funeral Home & Crematorium 337 Lockhart Mill Road Jacksonville NB on Sunday, July 14, 2019 from 4 to 8 PM. Funeral service will be held on Monday, July 15, 2019 at 11 AM from The Carleton Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be held in the Upper Woodstock Cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to any charity of the donors' choice would be appreciated by the family.
