Obituary

It is with profound sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our dad, Don Cluff. Dad was born in Woodstock, at the Fisher Memorial Hospital, on September 9, 1933, to Clifford and Mildred (nee Gibson) Cluff.

Dad was pre-deceased by his wife, Lorna (nee Brooks), and his parents, his brothers Malcolm and Allan (wife Sally), and his sister, Muriel Hunter (husband Gerald). Dad also mourned an infant, stillborn daughter, Baby Girl Cluff, born November 8, 1968.

On June 8, 2014, Dad lost the love of his life, our mum, Lorna. Dad's strength, at that time, was unwavering. His family, friends, and his music sustained him. Dad, you and mum are once again "together with rings".

Dad lived for his family, which he expressed proudly, during every visit with him. He leaves behind to mourn through tears, three daughters – Ronda Cluff of Woodstock, Angela Young (Blair) of Bedell and Lisa Shaw (Andrew) of Yorkville, Illinois.

He was so proud to be a grampie to Matthew (Pauline), Joe (Sarah), Vanessa (Will), Hailie (Josh), Chad (Brooke), Kyley, Olivia, and Allyson. He also leaves behind sixteen great-grandchildren, cousins, and several nieces and nephews. He cherished each and every one so deeply.

Dad had a strong work ethic, and this began early in his life. When he was young, he worked on his family farm and delivered groceries from Cluff's Market for his dad and his Uncle Walter. Dad was a butcher at Cluff's Market originally and things eventually transitioned to the business being solely a clothing store. The business was originally known as Cluff's Boys and Mens Wear and then Cluff's Clothing. Along with his late brother, Allan, and business partner, Lloyd Robinson, they operated their clothing store 'On the Square" in downtown Woodstock. They split their time between the Florenceville, Nackawic, and Woodstock stores.

Dad's life was so full of music. His talents took him in many directions. Dad was a self- taught musician, learning how to play the fiddle at the age of 12. He also played saxophone and he and his brother played at countless dances around the county. His involvement in community bands took him to performances on both sides of the border. Over the years, Dad performed at countless fiddle-doos and competed in numerous competitions throughout the Maritimes. He was a Maritime Fiddle Champion!! He was inducted into the NB Country Music Hall of Fame in Fredericton on October 16, 1999. He would say, "I've worked with a lot of people and give enormous credit to the musicians around me and, also to my wife, Lorna, who spent many hours listening to me play and scratch out new tunes". His tenor voice will always resound with us and the choir at Saint James United Church, where he sang for countless years as a committed member – choir, duets and solos. He sang tenor with the Shiretone's Barbershop Quartet.,, as well as the full Shiretowner's Chorus.

For most of his life, Dad was a faithful member of the Masonic Lodge in Woodstock. Dad lived his life full of gratitude, faith, and was committed to everything he was involved in. He could put a smile on anyone's face with his kind words and find the good in every situation. He was our dad, humble in every way and a gentle soul.

"Let all that you do, be done in love." 1 Corinthians 16:14
