Obituary

Darrell Charles Lewis of Woodstock, NB passed away at the Upper River Valley Hospital on Sunday, January 28, 2024 at the age of 77.

Darrell was born in Perth, NB on July 11, 1946 to the late Paul and Gertrude (Holt) Lewis.

Darrell was a truck driver throughout his life, driving pulp trucks, gravel trucks and transport trucks including driving Humpty Dumpty trailers to Newfoundland and a driver on Day & Ross. He said when he was young, he would see and hear the trucks going by school and being a truck driver was all he ever dreamt of doing. He loved to tinker especially on vehicles including his Volkswagen beetles, which he always loved. He enjoyed fiddle heading, despite not eating them, and would head out early with a flashlight to enjoy the best spots before anyone could get there first. It's hard to say which he enjoyed more, watching TV especially football in later years or enjoying his passion for reading. He was a voracious reader of anything nonfiction and especially loved National Geographic magazines. He was a lifelong die hard Montreal Canadians fan.

Darrell is survived by his brothers Reed, McKenzie Corner, NB and David (Diana), St. George, NB and his sisters Muriel, McKenzie Corner, NB and Louise (Darrell), Fredericton, NB. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents, Darrell was predeceased by his sisters Marion (Alvin) and Lynda (Lloyd), sister-in-law Gertrude and brother-in-law Thorsten.

A graveside service will take place in the spring at McKenzie Corner Baptist Cemetery.

As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
