Catharine Shirley
Dunphy
March 21, 1929 – January 31, 2026
Catharine "Shirley" Dunphy passed away peacefully at the age of 96, on January 31st, 2026, at the Hotel-Dieu of St. Joseph's hospital in Perth, NB.
Shirley was born on March 21, 1929 and grew up in Avondale, NB, with her parents and five siblings on their family farm.
During her teen years, Shirley first laid eyes on her future husband, John Dunphy. She fell in love with his beautiful brown eyes instantly. They married and had four children together. They moved around to many provinces while John was in the service, but ultimately came back and settled in Lakeville, NB, until his battle with kidney disease ended. Shirley supported her community by being an avid member of the Red Cross.
Later in her life, she moved to Woodstock, NB, with her second husband, Floyd Carmichael. Shirley's creativity shined through all of her many projects. Shirley was an amazing baker, painter, gardener and quilter. Her family was very lucky to have had such a creative and hard-working person in their lives.
Shirley was pre-deceased by her siblings Beatrice, Laura, Doris, Joyce and Charles, John Dunphy, Floyd Carmichael, daughter Shelia, grandson Ryan and daughter-in-law Barb.
Shirley is survived by her sons, Gary (Joette), Charlie and Willie (Debbie) and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
And for those who knew Shirley from her quilting days, don't forget to press, press, press.
A graveside service will be held at St Bonaventure Catholic Cemetery in Lakeville in the spring.
If so desired, donations can be made to the Kidney Foundation in her memory.
