Betty Jean
Hunter
June 12, 1933 – December 7, 2022
It is with appreciation of a life well-lived and gratitude for many years of memories, that the family of Betty Jean Hunter announces her passing which occurred on December 7, 2022 at the Upper River Valley Hospital.
Betty Jean was born the first child of Harley and Winnifred Clark in Middle Simonds on June 12 1933.
Betty was the oldest of seven children and quickly became the one who would always be the rock for all of the others. She was not only a sister, she was a confidante, friend, mother, and the glue that held the family together. She took great pride in being the matriarch of the family and was always aware of what was going on in the lives of her extended family.
She married the love of her life Harry Hunter March 3, 1950. They celebrated their 72nd anniversary last March, loving each other more than they did all those years ago. They first lived in Stickney, but soon moved to Middle Simonds where they began their family and brought up four boys, Murray, Douglas, Ernest and Hazen. Soon after they moved to what became commonly known in the family as Hunter Hill. This was the place that Betty loved so dearly and has always been her source of strength and the place that brought her peace and helped her make sense of the world.
During her life, her family and home were her main focus, but in later years she worked for Carleton Mutual Insurance, she made many friends in Carleton and Victoria County and was well respected for her work ethic and dedication to her clients.
Betty was well known by her family and friends for her cooking abilities. You could never enter her home and not find chocolate chip cookies on the counter. Doughnuts were always on hand too and she shared her talents with her grandchildren and others. You could always depend on having fudge in your Christmas gift and she made hundreds of pounds of brown sugar into fudge over the years.
Betty's main goal in life was to make sure that her family was happy and well provided for. She set the example for the rest of us to always be there for each other. We have many fond memories of family reunions on Hunter Hill and she took great pride in hosting these.
Betty is survived by her husband Harry, and her sons Murray (Georgie) of Maui, Daughter in law Marilyn, late Douglas (Maui), Ernest (Nancy) of Simonds, and Hazen (Bonnie) of Florenceville; sisters, Carol Green (late Douglas), Janice Cameron (John), Joan Peddle (Brian), and brother Creighton Clark (late Diane); grandchildren, Steven (Theresa), Kathy (Terry), Bobby, Christie (Carlos), Lisa (Juan), Jason (Susan), Sara (Matthew), Andrew (Renee); seventeen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents Harley and Winnifred Clark, her mother and father in law, George and Lottie Hunter, her son Douglas Hunter, great grandson Cole Hunter, brothers Austin (Al) Clark and Leighton Clark; sisters in law Sharon Clark, Audrey Clark and Diane Clark, Vella Hunter, Muriel Hunter, Norma Webber; brothers in law, Douglas Green, Willie Hunter, Gerald Hunter, George Webber.
There will be a private memorial service at her home on Hunter Hill Sunday, December 11 at 2pm. At this time the family would like to say thank you to Dr. Colin Lockhart for his care over the years, Extra Mural Program, Kindred Home Care, especially her caregivers Dale, Tabitha, and Carol.
