Betty Jane
Grant
September 18, 1949 – June 18, 2024
The family of Betty Jane Grant (Gartley) are deeply saddened to announce her passing on Tuesday, June 18th, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loved ones. Mom was born on September 18th, 1949, to Ralph and Ruth Gartley and treasured her youth, where she grew up just feet away from her beloved grandparents Harold and Jean (Culberson) Gartley and in the middle of family and neighbours that were like family, especially her "big sister" up the road, Arlene Burpee. On March 23, 1968, Mom married the love of her life, LeRoy Grant and gained her second set of parents, Saunders and Pearl (Philips) Grant. When they moved to Jacksontown in the fall of 1971, they were very fortunate to move into a home not only large enough for their growing family – but next door to Floyd and Ruth Everett who were a huge support to Mom as she raised six kids with a husband who drove truck. Known to us as Nana and Grampy, Mom has said numerous times over the years that she could not have raised us without their support. Mom and Dad raised a family of six children together and Mom was a pillar in the community – she was always the first to arrive with a baked good, bread/rolls or a casserole when there was a sickness, death, birth, or just someone in need. While not rich in finances, she was rich in her giving spirit and taking care of others. Mom loved her children, but her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the absolute light of her life, she truly lived for them. Whatever sporting event or activity they were involved in, Grammy Betty was there cheering them on. She was always the first to ask what needed to be done and who needed to be where. She loved nothing more than spending her weekends going back and forth between the rink and basketball court. It was also nothing out of the ordinary for her to show up and make supper or drop something off, knowing it was a busy night. Her presence in their lives was a gift that they deeply treasured. They loved their time with her, and she often talked about how honoured she was that they loved to spend time with her.
Recent years have been hard on Mom with so many health ailments, but she did her absolute best to not complain or impose on anyone. As a family, we want to acknowledge the amazing support she has received in the last couple of years from fantastic home care support workers – especially Tammy St. Amand, who has become a part of the family. Her support and care for Mom allowed her to live as independently as possible and we are all forever grateful for that gift you gave her.
Mom has suffered many great losses in her life. She is predeceased by her husband Roy, her son Andrew, her parents Ralph & Ruth Gartley, her baby brother Herbert Gartley and her in-laws Saunders & Pearl Grant. Left to mourn this huge loss in our lives are her children: Kevin (Sandra), Michael (Talitha), Angie Godin (Tim Bishop), James (Tricia) and Sarah. Her grandchildren: Hillary Grant, Tiffany Crawford (Jordan), Tim Grant, Jedidiah (Grace) Grant, Kenan Grant, Ethan (Gretchen) Grant, Kaytlin (Bryce) Godin, Josh Godin, Emma Godin, Noah Grant, and Isaac Grant, Braden, Conner, Dawson, Elijah Grant. Her great-grandchildren: MacKenzie, Benjamin, Marigold, and Alan, also survived by her brother William(Paula) Gartley.
Donations can be made to The New Brunswick Extra Mural Program or the Jacksontown Baptist Church Cemetery Fund in lieu of flowers.
