Barbara Diane
Harris
May 11, 1931 – December 5, 2025
Barbara Diane Harris (Diane) at the age of 94 entered eternal rest on December 5, 2025 at the Upper River Valley Hospital.
Diane was born on May 11, 1931, in South Porcupine, Ontario to Bert & Rachel Smith. The Smith's were a mining family originally from Isaacs Harbour, NS. Diane attributed her love of seafood to her paternal Maritime roots and talked fondly about her family's mining stories and the trials and tribulations of growing up in Rural Ontario during the Great Depression.
In her early 20's, while working at Woolworth's Department store in Toronto, Diane met her future husband, Glenn. They married on June 25, 1953. During the first year of marriage Diane was omitted to a tuberculosis Sanitorium. Diane later recalled the hardships of being away from her new husband, but also had happier stories of friendships that were formed while being in "The SAN"
Glenn & Diane went on to have two sons, Stephen and Randy. In 1970 after numerous family trips to New Brunswick, Glenn sprang the news that he had purchased a flower shop, and the family would be moving to Woodstock. It was here they owned and operated Thomas the Florist for 17 years.
Diane was a devote Christian and made it her mission to be a spreader of faith. Diane enjoyed playing the piano and loved telling countless stories from her youth to present day. She often finished stories with "Isn't that the limit!?" Diane's special joy were her Grandchildren.
Diane is survived by a brother Doug; sons, Stephen (Lorna) and Randy (Lorie). Grandchildren, Rachel (Brendan); Becca (Mitch); Rob (Pam); Jesse (Karlie). Great Grandchildren, Rae (Connor); Lee; Willa, Arlene, Izabel and Zoey. Diane was looking forward to becoming a Great Great Grandmother in April.
Diane is also survived by several nieces and nephews
Along with her parents, Diane was predeceased by her husband Glen, sister Joyce, Brothers Wayne and Gilbert and sisters and brothers-in-law.
As per Diane's request, there will be no service or visitation.
A private graveside service will take place at the Lindsay United Baptist Cemetery in the spring.
Many thanks to the Staff at The Carleton Manor and Upper River Valley Hospital.
"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16
