Obituary

Arthur Paul Sappier, of Woodstock First Nation, Woodstock NB , son of Martin Sappier of Woodstock First Nation and Margaret Smith of Annapolis Valley First Nation, both deceased, passed away peacefully at the Upper River Valley Hospital, Hartland NB on August 27th, 2025.

He is survived by his son Corey, of Woodstock First Nation, and sister Glenna Jacqueline, of Montreal, QC. He was pre-deceased by his daughter Sara, Brothers Albert, James, and Dale, all of Woodstock First Nation, his Sister Wanetta, of Ottawa ON, and sister Viola, of Miramichi NB, and many nephews and nieces.

He was a carpenter by trade and served many years as a Drug and Alcohol councillor. He spent many hours of his life basket making and teaching the craft, to which he became very good at. He was a pitcher for Karnes baseball team and was well known as one of the best, he later became coach. He spent much of his time enjoying his solitude at home and writing when he had the chance. He was an avid journal writer, and loved to write very long letters, although his penmen ship left much to be desired, and our eyes will never be the same. He was very generous and kind to his nieces and nephews, and those he loved. He loved to tell stories of his life that would often give everyone a great laugh.

He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all those who knew him. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to his daily care workers, the Chief and Council of the Woodstock First Nation, and the Health Center Staff who helped to make him comfortable and able to remain in his home in his final years.

Graveside service for Arthur will be at the Calvary Cemetery, Woodstock, NB, on Tuesday September 2nd, 2025. Officiated by Father Curtis Sappier of Tobique First Nation. Any donations can be sent to the Woodstock First Nation Edlers Group.
