Obituary

It is with a profound sense of loss that the family of Anna Gallivan announce her death at the age of 98 at the Carleton Manor nursing home in Woodstock, NB, on Wednesday, October 20, 2021.

Anna was born in Deerville, NB, the daughter of Ernest and Agnes (White) Fewer. She took vocational courses in high school and then studied nursing in Montreal, becoming a Registered Nursing Assistant (LPN). She married Basil Gallivan in 1954, and lived on the Gallivan homestead in Deerville throughout their marriage and after Basil's death in 1970. For the 61 years she lived there, the Gallivan farm was known for its hospitality, with neighbours and relatives from near and far always welcomed for an hour, a day, or a week of good food, music and conversation. Anna moved to Riverside Court Retirement Residence in Woodstock in 2015, and then to Carleton Manor in 2019.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Anna was predeceased by her brothers Jim Fewer and Claude Fewer, and her sisters- and brothers-in-law Sister Elizabeth Gallivan, Mark Gallivan, Pat (Kathleen Bell) Gallivan, Mary Gallivan, Sister Ludovin Gallivan, Maria (Gallivan) Ryan and Emma Fewer. She is survived by her children, Theresa (Nancy Kelley) of Boston, Cathy of Deerville, and Pat (Sue Green) of Woodstock, NB, her granddaughters Molly (Andrew) Fairgrieve and Laura Gallivan (Michael Sinclaire), and her great-grandchildren Owen and Maggie Fairgrieve, all of Fredericton.

Anna was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, a dedicated nurse, a friend and neighbour in good times and bad, and a woman of faith. Becoming a grandmother at 66 was one of the greatest joys in her life, and she was so very proud of Molly and Laura, not only for their educational and career accomplishments, but for the caring young women she saw them grow into. Being a nurse was more than a career, it was a calling, and she enjoyed the friendship of the women she worked with in her years on the maternity ward at the Carleton Memorial Hospital, which continued for the entire 33 years of her retirement. Anna was a lifelong member of the Catholic Women's League (CWL) and a deeply, but quietly, spiritual woman. She enjoyed the friendship of the Sisters of the Congrégation de Notre Dame during their time in Woodstock, and that of the other men and women who joined the Associates of the CND.
