Ann Marie
MacLeod
September 2, 1952 – May 3, 2026
With heavy hearts, we celebrate the life of Ann Marie (Eisener) MacLeod, 73, of Grafton NB who passed on Sunday, May 3. Beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, Ann rests peacefully after 4 years of defying the odds against a grave cancer prognosis. She faced this battle armed with the love of her family, grace and humility of her upbringing, steadfast sense of humour, and her unbreakable Eisener spirit.
Raised in Barss Corner, NS by Nellie and Ezra Eisener, Ann spent her younger years running the fields and riverbanks with her brother, best friend, and partner in crime Franklyn (Diane) Eisener along with her cousins who were like siblings to her, especially Mitchell (Michelle) Beck. Her many friendships led her to the unlikely setting of the Bridgewater Police Station where she met her life’s partner, Dan MacLeod, in a story that still inspires mystery and hilarity in the eyes of their 3 daughters, Amanda (Jason), Shaylynn (Scott), and Jennifer (Dillon). Ann and Dan eventually made their home in Grafton NB where Mom worked many years at Carleton Memorial Hospital and, later, at Upper River Valley Hospital. She cherished the friendships she made along the way, including those of her close friends Brenda and Steven Saunders, Kelly and Gordon Blakeney, lifelong companion LaVerne Hawkins, lifelong friend and sister-in-law Wendy Vardy, family friend Danny Rourke, and many others who we know will remember Mom for her contagious laugh, witty sarcasm, and unfaltering generosity and kindness. Ann’s memory will also live on in the hearts of her pride and joy - her 4 grandchildren: Kyla, Rémi, Rosalie, and Riley; as well as her adored nieces and nephew Tanya (Mike), Shawna (Brad), Candice (Kieley), and Matthew (Gillian).
Mom, we know you will be watching over us between sewing projects with love and promise to endure with your memory strong in our hearts and your laughter ringing in our ears.
As a family, we would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Ann’s oncology team, specifically Dr Galvis, Dr Connors, and especially to Angela and Tammy who went above and beyond to make Mom feel comfortable, supported, and cared for. Thank you to Dr Andrew Kennedy of Perth Andover whose kind and considerate care will always be remembered with appreciation. Final thanks to the staff of 2E Upper River Valley Hospital, especially Lisa, Marjorie, and Meghan, who helped Ann and her family face her final moments with dignity and comfort.
As per Mom’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral. Instead, she will return home to Nova Scotia to rest at Hillside Cemetery, Simpson’s Corner after a private family burial. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the River Valley Cancer support group or any organization to support palliative care in Carleton County,
