After a lengthy illness, Raymond Wilmot Page met death with his best measure of personal strength and dignity, Thursday morning, April 9, 2015 at Riverside Court in Woodstock, NB.
Raymond loved history and most especially the history of his family and community. He was born to Wilmot and Idella Page and raised on the family farm in Tracey Mills. His working life included driving tractor-trailer, selling life insurance and operating heavy equipment in road construction. He knew every backroad in New Brunswick and, possibly, every person who lived on those roads.
Raymond loved to be out, and the good times he enjoyed with his family and friends were out! Out camping, out canoeing, fishing or hunting, out at a cottage, out dancing, out on the deck making ice-cream and firing up the barbeque. When he retired, Raymond learned to cook -- out on the deck. He was especially delighted to use his barbeque as an oven and would bake you a cake if he knew you were coming. He would surely want you to stay for a coffee, and his wife Louise, who predeceased him February 19, 2013, would smile and welcome you in to their modest place in Woodstock or Saint Andrews.
Raymond enjoyed volunteering. He was happy to cajole anyone and everyone into supporting a good cause. Among those good causes over the years were: Boy Scouts of Canada, the Centreville Recreation Council, The Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Woodstock Historical Society, and the New Brunswick Museum Association. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge where he was raised to Master Mason in 1961. After they moved to Woodstock, he and Louise especially enjoyed the music as they attended Saint James United Church and participated in many church functions.
Raymond is survived by his children Linda (Brian) Kilpatrick, Cynthia Hines, Granville Page (Carrie Lynn Wall), Janice Page, Rayma Veniot (Dan Pitre); his grandchildren, Jared (Darcy) Kilpatrick, Megan (Jonny) Munro, Jonathan (Laura) Hines, Matthew Hines, Daniel Hines, Patricia Hines, Jacqueline Page (Kelly Engebretson), Jacob Bartlett, Sarah Bartlett, Granville Bartlett, Ashley Veniot; and his great-grandchildren, Eva and Adley Kilpatrick, Ruby Munro, Grace Hines, Emma and Parker Engebretson, and Madison Sanford. He is also survived by his two brothers, Edward (Louise) Page and Harold (Adele) Page; his brother-in-law Robert (Shirley) Anderson and sister-in-law Diane Trafford; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, April 12 th from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at The Carleton Funeral Home & Crematorium 337 Lockhart Mill Road Jacksonville. A Masonic Service will be held at 6:45 PM. The funeral service will be held on Monday, April 13 th at 11:00 AM from Saint James United Church, 120 Chapel Street, Woodstock with the committal service in Centreville at a later date.
For those who wish, donations may be made to the St. Paul's United Church Cemetery Fund (Centreville) or Saint James United Church General Fund (Woodstock), or a charity of the donor's choice.
